| National Rifle Association Instructor Training Welcome to the NRA Instructor Course page classes presented by SHOOT NJ. Shoot NJ offers ALL the NRA disciplines, classes given by Joe Westfield, Chet Wilson or Cameron Green, NRA Appointed Training Counselors. Before you go further you must ask yourself do I have the knowledge, skills and attitude to become a NRA Certified Instructor? Meet the following age requirements: Certified instructor: 21 years of age or older Assistant instructor: 18 years of age or older Apprentice instructor: 13-17 years of age Receive a passing grade on the NRA Trainer’s Examination and appropriate instructor certification examination: Certified: 90 percent or higher Assistant: 85 percent or higher Apprentice: 85 percent or higher We require you to be a National Rifle Association member to attend our instructors class, the NRA does not. You can join on this page. There is a per-course evaluation (TEST), you will be asked to take NRA basic student test (You must obtain a minimum score of 90%) in addition you will be required demonstrate your shooting skills/safety. These tests are mandatory in accordance with the NRA Training Counselor Guide 2010. If you fail the NRA Basic written for your discipline We highly recommend you attend a NRA basic course in the discipline you are interested in teaching. This is not mandatory by NRA standards (Yet), but it is by SHOOT NJ standards. We would rather not waste your time and hard earned money, if you didn't pass the course. We also recommend you take the NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) class first. This is not a teaching discipline however it is a fantastic foundation to build your safety protocols and familiarization to all type of firearms and range procedures. RSO is a 9 hours non shooting course. If you take RSO and an Instructor course together there is a discount available. The first step in the instructor process is the BIT Basic Instructor Training. This is a six hour minimum course that teaches you how to run an NRA class and the NRA's teaching philosophy and theory. The second step it to chose what you wish to teach and take the disciplines instructor course. Not everyone can be an instructor, just because you can shoot well doesn't make you a candidate to be an instructor. These courses are not designed to teach you about shooting. You should poses the knowledge, skills and attitude as well as be versed in firearms, safety, range safety, gun cleaning and so on BEFORE you take the class. Classes taken at SHOOT NJ are never a guaranteed pass. |
