NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course
Course Goal: To develop in citizens the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential
to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense.

The Personal Protection In The Home Certification requires a minimum of 8 hours to complete.

The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and
efficient use of a handgun for hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding
to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development.
Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA
Marksmanship Qualification booklet, course completion certificate, and Lesson Plan (print 10-06).
The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course participants must be law abiding, adults (at least 21 years old), and experienced shooters
(shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing learned from this course. Proof of shooting
experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting
qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
Shoot NJ includes the "Refuse to be a Victim" seminar after the PPIH course. Hoping the extra information keeps you from ever having to defend your home.

Personal Protection In The Home Course Locations: Shoot NJ Firearms Learning Center and Ft. Dix Range 14 For PPIH, the student needs to provide a minimum of 200 rds of ammo for their firearm

You do need your own handgun for this course plus 2 magazines or speed loaders It must be a minimum of 9mm or 38cal. Please no 44mags and such.

This course deals with real world violent confrontations, simulations and scenarios.
All safety rules still apply. They just apply differently.
1. Keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. (But keep the intruder's covered with your firearm until the police arrive.)
2.Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. (If someone breaks into your home, you are ready to shoot to protect your life
and the lives of your family as a last resort {NJ law}.)
3.Keep a firearm unloaded until ready to use. (A home protection firearm is always ready to use. But still must be kept away from
unauthorized users.)
Maximum number of students per class is 6. That keeps our student to instructor ratio 2:1. We normally have 2 instructors and an RSO at our advanced courses. When the maximum is reached the date will be deleted.

Shoot NJ presents PPIH over TWO days. 8 hours classroom and a minimum of 3 hours Range. Lunch is included the day of classroom.

Personal Protection in the Home Pistol Course

and unloading procedures with the pistol and dummy cartridges the student will use during the course.
Demonstrate the ability to shoot groups with a pistol from a supported position at a distance of 15 feet. The student must shoot three five-shot groups, each of which can be covered by a circle nine inches in diameter, anywhere on the blank target. Zero a pistol from a supported position at 15 feet by shooting a five-shot group on a bullseye target, then determining the sight adjustment needed to move the group to the center, making the sight change, and shooting a conforming group.
